New gTLDs Launched/Announced
Registry operator Donuts has announced details of its next TLDs to launch into Sunrise as follows:
Early Access Program (EAP) Day 1
End Date Sunrise(not first-come, first- served)
The following Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs) are available for Donuts NgTLDs:
- English, French, Spanish in all Latin TLDs except for German
- English, French, Spanish, and German in the German TLDs
- English and Chinese only in the Chinese IDN TLDs
Registry operator GMO Registry, Inc. has announced the launch of the next of its new GeographicTLD, .YOKOHAMA, for the city of Yokohama, Japan, into Sunrise as follows:
End Date Sunrise
During the Sunrise period, trademark rights holders may register their domain names for a one-year term, provided that the term applied for is in the Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH), with multiple applications for the same domain resulting in an auction.
It is not possible to register trademarks that contain mixed scripts (a combination of IDN and non-IDN characters) during the Sunrise period.
Multiple applications for the same domain during the Landrush period will also result in an auction, while domains registered under General Availability will be available to everyone on a first-come, first-served basis for a registration term of 1-10 years.
Domains will be available in both Japanese (Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji scripts), as well as ASCII characters.
The names of wards, cities, towns, and villages in Yokohama, strings related to tourism and transportation in Yokohama, and some other names will initially be reserved.
.PRESS Pioneer Program
Registry operator DotPress Inc. has announced the launch of its .PRESS Pioneer Program for the journalism, publishing, blogging, and online news industries. The program will enable all .PRESS Pioneers to obtain a .PRESS domain before it opens for General Availability (date to be confirmed).
.PRESS Pioneers are expected to meet the following requirements:
- Use the .PRESS domain as your primary domain;
- Post a blog post or occasional social media updates (Facebook/Twitter) upon activation of the domain name; and
- Participate in joint marketing activities initiated by the Registry.
Upon commencement of General Availability, the .PRESS TLD will be unrestricted and available to everyone on a first-come, first-served basis.
Pioneer Program for بازار. (.xn--mgbab2bd – Arabic for “bazaar/bazar”)
We would like to inform you that registry operator CORE Association has extended the deadline to submit applications under its Pioneer Program for بازار. (.xn--mgbab2bd – Arabic for “bazaar/bazar”) until 15 July 2014.
The Pioneer Program will allow up to 90 prospective domain holders to register and start using their domain names a few months ahead of the start of General Availability, which is scheduled for 5 August 2014.
DPML – United TLD (Rightside Registry) – Reminder
We would like to remind you that the United TLD (Rightside Registry) Domains Protected Marks List (DPML), a Rights Protection Mechanism specific to United TLD’s new gTLD registries, which allows trademark owners to have their Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH)-validated marks blocked from registration at the second level in all United TLD’s new gTLDs for one fee, is available to clients.
You can choose to block an exact match or a term containing the exact match, including IDNs, however a DPML block will not guarantee the blocking of premium names, domains which have already been registered, exact-match trademarks, or those names changed from standard to premium. Also, any Sunrise-eligible trademark holder can override and “unblock” your blocked term, thus registering the domain, during or after the Sunrise period.
A DPML registration containing only the trademark term must comprise four or more characters.
A DPML registration has a similar lifecycle to a domain registration and may be purchased for a period of from 1-10 years.
United TLD is set to operate approximately 29 new gTLDs this year, with more to come next year, so this voluntary block service may prove to be an economical way for trademark owners to protect their rights from getting into the hands of cybersquatters.
