Warner Bros., following its announcement of an agreement with author J.K. Rowling to create several film spin-offs of the infamous Harry Potter novels, has filed applications with the USPTO for a slew of new Potter-related trademarks.
Rowling is set to pen the screenplay for the first film in the series, which focuses on Newt Scamander, the fictional author of the fictional ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ which appears in several Potter books. According to the terms of the deal, she also maintains script approval on any subsequent ‘Fantastic Beasts’ films.
In addition to filing for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Warner Bros. also filed trademark applications for Tales of Beedle the Bard, Beedle the Bard, Quidditch Through the Ages, along with Wimbourne Wasps, Chudley Cannons, and Kenmare Kestrels, which are familiar to Potter readers as Quidditch team names. Trademark applications were also filed for the names of Newt Scamander and Kennilworthy Whisp, the fictional Quidditch expert.
