When you hear the name Snowden it’s not likely that you think about electric car technology. It’s indisputable that “Snowden” has a lot of name recognition right now. That may be why Hong Yuan Lan Xiang (HYLX) submitted an application to register Snowden as a trademark in both Chinese and English for “top secret” electric car technology, which may include new removable batteries and fast charging methods. The company’s manager, Zhu Hefeng told the South China Morning Post: “We are talking with China’s domestic carmakers, and we aim to launch cars equipped with our technology by the end of this year.”
Anyone who’s read a newspaper over the past few months is likely to recognize the name Snowden because of Edward Snowden, the former American government contractor who leaked top-secret documents to the press. Do you think the Snowden name will be considered too political to be approved as a trademark in China?
