Gibson Guitar Sues WowWee for Trademark Infringement

by T+B Blog Team on December 2, 2010

A Les Paul guitar made out of cardboard? That’s what’s being marketed by WowWee, the manufacturer of Paper Jamz guitars, along with other models based on actual Gibson guitar designs, like the Flying V and the Explorer. Now Gibson Guitar Corp., is suing WowWee for trademark infringement and Amazon, K-Mart, Target and other retailers for contributing to the trademark infringement by selling the products.

The Paper Jamz website references the Gibson models that each of its paper guitars is patterned after. For example, the product description for the Paper Jamz Guitar Style 6 – Series 1 states, “This guitar is styled after the famous Gibson SG.”

Do you think there’s a likelihood of confusion?
